Nioh 3: Elite Enemy Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Clearing Nioh 3's open world means knowing which enemies actually matter — and that's not always the ones blocking your path. Elite Enemies are the high-priority Yokai MapMaster has pinned across all six maps: named, powerful encounters that guard Valuable chests, anchor Enemy Bases, drive Myths forward, and drop Soul Cores at rates standard enemies can't match.

With over 60 locations marked across all eras, MapMaster's Elite Enemy locations guide is the only interactive resource that tracks spawn positions, Myth-gated conditions, and wave appearances together — included in our Nioh 3 interactive guide hub.

What Makes an Elite Enemy Different?

Elite Enemies are a step above standard open-world Yokai but sit below the named Bosses and Crucible Wraiths in the enemy hierarchy.

They patrol specific positions rather than roaming freely, have larger health pools and more varied attack patterns than standard Yokai, and serve structural roles in the world — guarding gates, anchoring Enemy Bases, and controlling passage between sub-regions.

Defeating one is rarely optional if you want full area control.

Three Reasons to Engage Every Elite You Find

  • Access: Several Elites guard locked gates, territory passages, or Spirit Vein entrances. The Gaki Chief on the bridge into Rokuhara blocks the entire province until defeated. Elites guarding Crucible Spikes — the Ippon-Datara at Shichijo, the Raiju at Nijo Castle — must be cleared before the spike can be destroyed.

  • Resources: Elite Enemies have significantly higher Soul Core drop rates than standard enemies. For players building specific Soul Core loadouts, the open-world Elites are the most reliable farming source outside dedicated Crucible Wraith hunts.

  • Progression: Several Myths require defeating a specific Elite to trigger the next narrative beat or unlock the final reward. Skipping an Elite in an area you think is cleared can silently stall a Myth mid-chain.

Myth-Gated Elites: Enemies That Only Spawn on Demand

Two Elite Enemies in the guide below spawn exclusively during active Myths and don't appear at their locations otherwise:

  • Yamainu (Heian, Rokuhara farm) — spawns on the hill in the centre of the farm only while the Shadows on the Capital Myth is active. Without the Myth running, that position is empty.

  • One-eyed Oni & Ippon-Datara (Heian, Rokuhara courtyard) — spawns in the centre of the courtyard, also exclusively during the Shadows on the Capital Myth.

All Elite Enemy Locations Across All Eras

All 60+ locations are marked on the Warring States area map, Heian interactive map, Antiquity map guide, Bakumatsu area map, and Final Battle of Edo interactive map, with exact patrol positions, Myth requirements, and Lesser Crucible wave appearances.
